What Are the Benefits of Paintless Dent Repair?

Gavin Lawson

Paintless dent repair (PDR) is a specialised technique used to remove dents from the body of a car without getting the original car paint touched up. This dent repair method may be used as long as the car paint hasn't been damaged.

PDR offers a variety of great benefits compared to other methods of dent repair. Check out some of those below.

It's a fast dent repair process.

Although having small dents in your car body ruins the aesthetics of your vehicle exterior, you may be reluctant to take your car to a smash repair shop if it'll take too long to get the vehicle back to the road.

PDR is a fast method of repairing dents in cars. It doesn't require sanding the damaged area down to the bare metal, filling it out with body filler, sanding over it again after it has hardened to achieve a smooth surface and then finally applying primer and paint to the damaged area to hide the repair and restore the original factory finish of the car.

To perform PDR, you simply need to access the backside of the dent and apply gentle pressure to get it back to shape.

It saves money.

Car repair costs impact the overall cost of vehicle ownership. PDR is one of the most inexpensive ways to fix small dents in cars. Because it doesn't require the use of sandpaper grit, body filler, primer or paint, PDR keeps material costs down. It also takes less time to complete compared to traditional dent repair. This helps to minimise labour costs.

It's environmentally friendly.

As more and more car owners become eco-conscious, they want to go green with their smash repairs, too. PDR doesn't involve removing old paint, so there's no paint to dispose of after a repair job has been completed.

Since damaged areas don't need to be touched up with fresh paint, there's no risk of overspray. Plus, there's no pollution due to toxic fumes released into the environment when spray painting a car.

Getting the dents in your car body fixed quickly and properly is essential to maintain the aesthetics and value of the vehicle. While PDR offers great benefits to car owners, it may not be suitable for fixing all sorts of dents. The technicians at a local smash repair shop can assess the damage to your car and let you know whether PDR is a viable option.
